Fast-track barnstormers: Newcomers Pakenham jump to Division One
TREBLE winners the Pakenham were boosted by the news that they will be fast-tracked into Division One of the Camden Sunday League next season after taking the world of amateur football by storm. The club made a scintillating league debut this term with a great unbeaten run, which saw them win the Division Three title, our prestigious Challenge Cup and the Junior Cup.
Pakenham also boast one of the most lethal strike partnerships ever seen at Hackney Marshes, with Daniel Wright and Jaron Robinson, better known as the Shake and Bake, who scored over 90 goals between them.
As a reward for their efforts, the triumphant team will now bypass Division Two and go straight into the top flight. Club Owner Matthew Philipson said: “We are really excited about competing in the top division and wiping the smiles off Reddot’s faces by winning the league.”
Rampant Reddot will, however, take some stopping after winning both the Division One championship and the Senior Cup.
Manager Micky Dowsett and his players gathered at the Icons Bar in Hampstead on Saturday for a special end-of-season awards ceremony. Among the top honours was Liam Barnabie, who won the Goal of the Season Award for his spectacular overhead kick against AFC Shooters.
