Close bout: Liam Foster (left) and Billy Stewart
Kids’ mixed fortunes
THERE were mixed fortunes for two junior fighters from Islington Boxing Club on Saturday in a spectacular show at the West Hill ABC in East Sussex.
Billy Stewart was the first to step up to take on home favourite Liam Foster over three rounds. Competing at 34kg Stewart showed neat footwork and countered well in a lively opening round. The talented 13-year-old started to find his rhythm in the second with a series of snappy shots, but just missed out on the judges’ decision after a closely-fought third and final round.
There was better news for team-mate Asher Wilson, who dominated his bout against George Edwards in the 51kg weight division.
The hard-hitting 15-year-old demonstrated an array of solid shots as he controlled the contest throughout to earn a unanimous win from the judges.
