Distress call unanswered
• ON Monday June 6. I was telephoned by a friend at about 8pm to say as I was a member of CareLine, could I press my button and get help to a lady in Hampstead who had been lying on the floor for an hour unable to get any response from CareLine.
On pressing my button, my home was filled with a very loud noise. I was shouting my request but got no voice so I went into my kitchen and phoned CareLine in Camden and again, no response so eventually I dialled 999 and spoke to the police who quickly took over.
By the time all of this took place, I decided to go to bed at 10pm.
At 11pm my telephone rang and this man from CareLine said would I get my CareLine button tested first thing the next morning, as maybe it was malfunctioning.
It was tested and found to be OK. It is outrageous there was no response. We pay for this service. I actually pay £59.80 for my quarterly charge.
This is to give peace of mind to my daughter and family and myself. What a joke. The police were prompt with their attention and the following morning I was happy to receive a phone call saying the lady in question was OK.
