Medal haul: Swiss Cottage Masters’ record show
TRIUMPHANT swimmers from Camden Swiss Cottage Masters rewrote the record books and celebrated a mighty medal haul at the British Gas National Championships in Cardiff at the weekend.
Competing in the 45-49 age group, Nuala Muir Cochrane led the gold rush, setting new British marks in the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle. Calum McKinley continued the success with a record -breaking time in the 400m freestyle, and then beat his own 800m freestyle record.
McKinley completed a hat-trick of gold medals with victory in the 200m freestyle, and then went on to win silver in the 100m freestyle.
Former Olympian Susan Halter won five gold medals, while team-mates Matt Molloy, Kyla Steenhart and Vicky Linton-Crooke also secured top spot on the podium.
Competing in the 25-29 age group, Kirsty Melville took a medal of each colour after clinching gold in the 400m freestyle, silver in the 200m freestyle and bronze with a personal best in the 100m freestyle.
Oscar Rincon set two best times on the way to winning gold and silver in his respective 200m breaststroke and 400m individual medley events.
Debutant Rob Williams also returned home with a gold medal following a perfect swim in the 800m freestyle, before winning silver medals in the 200m, the 400m and the 1500m freestyle.
There were also silvers for Maida Shivik, Pete Jaggs and David Cole.
