Buckley’s all round show

Middlesex County Cricket League

Division One

Stanmore 122 ao
Hampstead 126-3

BRANDON Buckley was the star for Hampstead as they took all 10 points with this seven- wicket win over mid-table Stanmore.
The home side won the toss and put Stanmore into bat and Buckley proved a thorn in their side, taking four catches to restrict the visitors to a meagre 122 all out. Buckley was just as adept at the crease, top scoring 59 before he was caught by Tim Murtagh. Paul Weekes kept up the pressure, forging 44 not out, to take Hampstead to 126 for the loss of just three wickets.

Evan’s 103 washed out

Division Two

North Middlesex 255-8 dec
Brentham 25-0
match abandoned

HEAVY rain washed out North Midd in the 11th over of the second innings.
The visitors made an impressive start with the bat as Scott Richardson reached 45 and opener Evan Flowers (103) raced to his first century this season. Will Wootton (27) and Matt Drew (31 not out) pushed on to 255-8 at tea.
But a heavy thunderstorm brought an end to proceedings with the home side on 23-0 and with insufficient overs completed, both teams had to settle for a point.

South Hampstead blow chance

Uxbridge 234-8 dec
South Hampstead 159-8

SOUTH missed out on vital points as fellow strugglers Uxbridge secured a winning draw.
James Williams was the pick of South’s team, dominating with 77 as the visitors attempted to overhaul the target of 234 set by Uxbridge. Nick Hardy ended Williams’s valiant effort and with it, South’s chances of much-needed points.

Highgate climb to third place

Division Three

Wycombe House 122 ao
Highgate 123-7

A THREE-WICKET victory over bottom side Wycombe saw Highgate move up to third.
Skipper Craig Gourlay lost the toss but the captain, Tony Duckett, Andrew Browne and Phil Brown restricted the visitors to 122 off 32 overs.
In reply James Warburton and Kiwi debutant Eddie Binns eased their way to a quick-fire 60-run partnership until Warburton finally went, caught behind, for 22.
Binns was caught at slip just two balls later for a good 32 but the loss of Leigh Wooldridge Nick Brunner and Phil Brown saw the home side at just 80-5.
Gourlay and Matt Holly steadied the ship with Holly easing his way to a match winning 28 not out.

WANTED BIG HITTERS

A NEW search for big-hitting batsmen, mystery spinners and fast bowlers is now under way.
Trials for the Wisden City Cup, a competition to promote cricket in inner-city communities, took place in Regent’s Park in June.
The cup is aimed at 16 to 25-year-olds who are not already registered with first class or minor county sides.
The plan is to create four teams, based on the area covered by Middlesex County Cricket Club, to compete against each other in a Twenty20 evening league in July and August.
