Alma matters! Superstar musicians turn out to perform at special street festival
BIG-NAME hip-hop acts competed with cake stalls and raffles for the attention of visitors to the annual Alma Street festival on Sunday.
Around 3,000 people turned out for the event, at which MOBO award-winner Roots Manuva, Jamaican reggae singer Dawn Penn and singer Mr Hudson performed in front of the crowd in the colourful Kentish Town street.
Mr Hudson, who lives in Kentish Town, treated the audience to a snappy rendition of his popular song A Tale of Two Cities before rushing off to join US rapper Kanye West on stage in Hyde Park.
Other acts included reggae musician Lord Eric and teenage punk band Attack of the Moths.
Festival organiser Diana Harewood paid tribute to Chris Townsend, who owns the Map Studio Café in Grafton Road, and Michael Ptootch who owns Flaxon Ptootch hair salon in Kentish Town High Road, for persuading Manuva, Penn and Hudson to play.
Ms Harewood said: “We arranged this so the community could have a good time and to show other communities that it is possible to do something on this big a scale.” |
