Buckley and Akhtar shine
Middlesex County Cricket League
Richmond 233-7 dec
Hampstead 236-3
MOHAMMAD Akhtar and Brandon Buckley high scored as Hampstead romped to a seven-wicket victory at Richmond’s Old Deer Park ground. Richmond won the toss and opted to bat and put on a decent display at the crease.
Their early order set the tone with a brisk scoring rate allowing the home side to declare on 233 for seven from 66 overs.
The visitors made short work of the total, with Ben Moore forging 32 before he was out LBW with Buckley on a half-century.
Akhtar picked up the run rate, forging 38 before Buckley was run out on 82 and going on to score 70 before he, too, went LBW.
Skipper Paul Weekes added 30 as Hampstead ended play on 236 for the loss of just three wickets.
Batting woe despite the Flowers’ show
Division Two North Middlesex 103 ao
Acton 104-3
A FIRST batting collapse of the season put paid to Midds’ hopes of picking up any points at home to Acton. Acton won the toss and put North Midd into bat. But only Evan Flowers challenged the Acton attack, putting in a creditable knock of 36.
With seven batsmen failing to make double figures, the home side were dismissed for 103 runs after 37 overs.
The visitors reached their total in just 25 overs with the loss of three wickets to take all the points.
Jackson’s 6-39 is not enough
Division Two North London 158 ao
Enfield 159-7
NORTH missed out on much-needed points after losing by three wickets. The home side won the toss and opted to bowl, with Nick Jackson stealing the show with six wickets for 39.
Patrick Mills and Chris Ridley gave North hope with 51 and 50 respectively but the early wickets took their toll and the visitors could only reach 158 from 50.5 overs.
In reply Enfield’s Jack Plumb top scored with 63 as the home side reached the total in 36.3 overs with the loss of seven wickets.
Patel sets up Hampstead victory
Division Two S Hampstead 223-9 dec
Brentham 126 ao
NISH Patel’s knock of 62 runs helped South Hampstead pick up valuable points at home to Brentham. South won the toss and opted to bat, and reached 223 for nine from their 55 overs.
Brentham’s reply fell short, their batsmen recording 126 all out, to see South record a 97-run victory that takes them out of the bottom two.
Skipper Craig’s fire to no avail
Division Three Highgate 200-8, Barnet 203-7
SKIPPER Craig Gourlay and James Warburton top scored with 55 apiece in a spirited show. But their plucky endeavours were not enough to secure victory for Highgate.
Opening bats Warburton and Leigh Wooldridge made a bright start but the wickets fell quickly after both were dismissed for 55 and 34 respectively.
Gourlay continued in fine style and rallied his side and Highgate ended on 200 for eight from their 55 overs.
But it was not enough; Barnet were not to be fazed and surpassed the target in reply, with the loss of seven wickets from 41.2 overs.
