Cultures club! Festival beats off rain

CHILDREN got dizzy at the Somers Town Festival of Cultures on Saturday.
Spinning teacups, trampolines and massive slides made some queasy, while only the most audacious dared brave “The Energiser” and “The Sizzler”, the two scariest rides. The soundtrack was provided by bands The Northern Celts and Wolf People. Also performing was Camden rapper Dekay, a former homeless woman who now works with the Camden Calling charity, which helps people sleeping rough on the streets.
Pearly Kings and Queens, including John Scott, the Pearly King of Highgate, donned their finery for a stroll past the bric-a-brac stalls and cake stands that lined Chalton Street.
Undeterred by the drizzle, representatives from Camden Council were also out in force to consult on the planned redevelopment of King’s Cross, as were a team of researchers from the Camden Arts Centre, which is investigating what local people think of changes to the area as part of its DIY Regeneration project.
