Rainy day blues for league

THE Middlesex County Cricket League was washed out on Saturday as rain curtailed most matches.
Highgate were among the few teams that managed to get a result from their Division Three clash against Wembley, although it was one they far from welcomed following a dismal batting display.
Dave Benton provided a rare batting highlight as he top scored with 59, including nine fours and two sixes, before Highgate were all out for 127.
In reply Wembley climbed to 90-4 before the rain set in, earning themselves four points for a winning-draw courtesy of their faster run-rate.
In Division One Hampstead had been set a target of 267 for victory in their away match against Shepherds Bush. The visitors struggled to stifle the Shepherds Bush attack despite the efforts of Leo Smith, who claimed four wickets for just 49 runs.
Mohammed Akhtar, Zac Khan, Dexter Thomas and Paul Weekes also all took wickets as the hosts were dismissed for 266. Hampstead openers Stewart Harris and Brandon Buckley offered little resistance as they managed a joint score of 29 before being dismissed.
The new partnership of Mohammed Akhtar and Sumeet Sharma didn’t get the chance to get going before the game was abandoned.
North London made a promising start in their second division encounter against title-chasing Acton.
Having seen Acton declare on 221-7, North London raced to 114 without loss off 21 overs before the match was washed out.
Despite being denied a chance of victory, North London were at least rewarded for their efforts, securing four points for a winning-draw.
South Hampstead were also left feeling the frustration in their Division Two clash against rivals North Middlesex. South Hampstead managed a lofty 235-7 before declaring after 54 overs.
Just 14 overs into their reply, North Middlesex were struggling on 57-2 before the game fell victim to the weather.
