Inside the roof timbers of the Willes pool |
A roof idea... £25m baths revamp images
BEHIND the protective sheets and scaffolding, here’s what’s going on at the Kentish Town Baths in Prince of Wales Road.
This exclusive peek shows workmen restoring the roof of the historic Willes Pool as part of the £25million overhaul of the sports centre. The refurbished pools – one of only a handful of Victorian baths nationwide to survive closure – is due to re-open late next year. The centre was saved from possible sale and demolition in 2006 after a campaign by swimmers.
Lib Dem leisure chief Councillor Flick Rea said: “I’m thrilled to see how well work is progressing. It’s really exciting to think that this time next year we will have a fantastic new centre – the building restored to its former glory yet with state-of-the-art sport and swimming facilities.”
