Builders discover body of man in Grand Union canal
BUILDERS working in King’s Cross on Friday made a grim discovery when they spotted a body floating in the Grand Union canal.
Workers from a site opposite the canal were taking a break on the towpath wall, just off York Way when they spotted the body lying face down in the water in the early morning.
Police were called and the lifeless body of 51-year-old Brian Marsh was retrieved from the water at about 6.30am, just underneath the bridge by King’s Place. He was pronounced dead just after 7am.
One eyewitness said Mr Marsh appeared to have a backpack on his back.
Detectives and forensic officers spent the day examining the body by the canal side.
Mr Marsh’s relatives have been informed. It is understood he was from Dagenham.
Detective Inspector Heather Carpenter of Camden Police is leading the investigation.
A post mortem yesterday (Wednesday) gave the cause of death as drowning but the coroner is still awaiting the results of a toxicology test.
No arrests have been made. |
