Camden New Journal - CROW by RICHARD OSLEY and PIP WROE
Published: 20 August 2009

At least six reasons for us to forget about circus clown sulk Adebayor

I SHAN’T crow too much, but weren’t Arsenal good at the weekend?
I would’ve been happy with a draw at Goodison Park, but look at that: a 6-1 win. Everton were sloppy and Arsenal were magnificent.
It’s made me forget Emmanuel Adebayor already. Well, I haven’t actually.
I fear the image of his upturned, sulky face – the one like a miserable circus clown that he used to pull every time he missed a sitter – may well have scarred a part of my brain forever.
The bit beneath my skull which made me scowl irrationally and spit obscenities to the predictable bunglefaces who turned to me on Saturday and said, “Hey Osley, have you seen who’s scored for Man City? Your favourite player”.
But why bang on about him when there are good things to think about. Thomas Vermaelen’s impressive start. William Gallas’s new-found enthusiasm. And the brilliance of Cesc Fabregas. We were even first on Match Of The Day.
And we beat the Scots. On that score, if you are passing the Sheephaven Bay pub in Camden Town at all, pop in and cheer up landlord Pat Logue. His friendly lair of Celtic fans was the perfect place to watch Gallas score with his bum.
No doubt you’ll find him still grumbling about how unlucky his team were.

IS it time for some premature celebrating in north London? I think it may be.
As both Arsenal and Tottenham set about schooling their woeful Liverpudlian opponents this weekend, a sudden transformation occurred.
Arsenal fans woke from their summer of depression and decided that it may be worth lying to themselves for another season after all. It may be worth building up a false hope of winning something more than the Emirates Cup, and then feeling justified in cursing their overachieving teens for the ensuing season of failure.
Spurs, on the other hand, just gazed in joy and happiness at the league table which read, “Played 1, Points 3”, for the first time in 12 years.
This may be due to the fact that for once we haven’t changed our entire squad over the summer. Just a few key improvements this time, such as the addition of a “fourth good striker” as everyone was so keen on telling Darren Bent before he’d even confirmed his departure.
With Wilson Palacios commanding our midfield with the energy of a child after a can of Coke, there is promise this season. Let’s just hope Benoit Assou-Ekotto can conjure up that thunderous drive a couple more times, and that Luka Modric can remain the little wizard he was on Sunday.
