Ealing take title again

HAMPSTEAD failed to stop Ealing winning a record-breaking fifth consecutive title on Saturday in Division One of the Middlesex County Cricket League.
Having decided to bowl first, Hampstead struggled to contain the home sides’ attack in a testing 66-over innings. Huw Jones top scored for Ealing with 87 off 109 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. Sameer Patel and Hassan Khan added respectively 36 and 34 before the hosts declared on 314-8.
Dexter Thomas was the pick of the Hampstead bowlers with four for 36.
Opener Brandon Buckley got Hampstead off to a positive start with a blistering 56, hitting nine fours and a six.
Both the top and middle order scored steady runs, with Stewart Harris hitting 31, Paul Weekes 48 and Sumeet Sharma 38.
Time, and so nearly wickets, however got the better of Hampstead as they ended play on 244-9 from 54 overs to take a point.
In Division Two, North Middlesex kept their faint promotion hopes alive with a four-wicket victory over Twickenham.
Jaron Semper was the star of the show as he claimed six wickets for 55 runs as Twickenham were dismissed for 174 within 54 overs.
A steady score of 63 from Evan Flowers and Scott Richardson’s hard-earned 40 narrowly edged the Midd towards victory.
Promising youngster Zulfi Azom, 14, came in to score an impressive 38 not out and guide the Midd to 177-6.
