Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 27 August 2009

Lessons in taking from the poor to give to rich

• THE New Journal is to be congratulated on its exposure of how Camden Council spends our money.
Their taking from the poor to give to the rich is well set out.
They pay their own parking fines of £15,000, give £170,000 in bonuses to the highest paid staff (while refusing to agree to minimum London wages for their contract workers) and pay £80,000 to a parking interim manager for six months’ work.
Meanwhile funding for youth work for Maiden Lane is cut, proposals are underway to axe 25 per cent of caretakers, to sack wardens from sheltered housing and for the closure of hostels for homeless persons.
Is it not ironic that one of your anonymous correspondents earlier this month complained that the Liberal Democrats were being portrayed as uncaring?
Thanks to your information readers and voters can now judge for themselves.
