Auction of flats for a pittance is a disgrace
• THE auction of flats in my ward –the one in Levita House and the one at Winsham, Churchway estate, both for about £177,000 is a disgrace for two reasons.
The buyer(s) get a damn good flat for a pittance and can make a massive profit selling it on; and we lose flats we badly need for our people on the waiting list – over 17,637 – I do not agree whatsoever with the sales overall but what idiot agreed to sell these properties off at such a lousy price to give someone a vast profit?
This Liberal Democrat/ Tory coalition ruling Camden Council for the past three years need to reassess the whole issue of selling off our housing stock; and closing down homeless people’s centres; and while they make it clear they do it to raise funds for maintenance and repairs of existing properties and to that end blame the government for not giving local authorities like us sufficient funding for that that purpose why then has the leadership refused to agree and seek an all party deputation to the housing minister as agreed by all those of us on the housing and adult social care committee?
I am raising a question at the next council meeting to ask for details of how much has been made by these sales; how many properties have been sold etc.
We deserve to know before this bunch at the Town Hall sell off all our housing stock and we have nothing to offer those badly needing council housing.
