Sam the parrot
Parrot owner in appeal as Sam goes missing

A PARROT with a penchant for peanut butter has gone missing in Kentish Town.
The 25-year-old African Grey, known as Sam, took to the skies after being unsettled from the shoulder of her owner by a gust of wind.
Owner Frank Drake, 68, said: “She’d perch in a specific spot if she was waiting to get on my shoulder. She has a real sense of humour.”
Mr Drake and his wife Sue last saw Sam on the roof of their neighbour’s house in Falkland Road.
Efforts to coax the bird down with a pole spooked her and she took to the skies.
Sam has been apparently been seen in Highbury Fields, Islington, and reports of parrot noises have come in from the surrounding streets in Kentish Town.
Mr Drake said: “If you drank nearby to her then she would make gurgling noises, and when I picked up my tools she would make a hammering sound. Whenever she heard glasses clink she’d imitate that too.”
But potential rescuers are warned that the bird will bite if she feels threatened.
Mr Drake has put up a number of posters and remains hopeful that she will be found – and return home for her favourite meal of peanut butter on toast.
“It’s a good time of year for her to be lost, owing to there being plenty of fruit around on trees for her to draw from,” he added.
Anyone who thinks they have seen Sam is urged to call the RSPCA Lost and Found Register on 0300 1234 999.
