Bhatt blitzes Hampstead

Middlesex County Cricket League

STANMORE’S Mukesh Bhatt condemned Hampstead to only their second defeat of the season on Saturday with a devastating bowling display at the Common Ground.
In the Division One clash Bhatt took eight wickets for 70 runs in a relentless 24-over spell, which included nine maidens. Opener Brandon Buckley top-scored for Hampstead with 32 as the visitors were dismissed for 138 in 50 overs.
In reply, Dexter Thomas did his best to make a game of it as he claimed the wickets of Navin Samarakoon and Nicholas Goh to leave Stanmore on 19-2.
But with such a slender score, Hampstead’s hopes were short-lived. Jimi Chialoufous hit a patient 50 while Alastair Fraser scored 36 to lead Stanmore to a seven-wicket win with 140-3 off 37.3 overs.
In Division Two North London face a nervous final-day fixture against Enfield as they look to avoid relegation. The side failed to secure safety on Saturday as they slumped to a 10-wicket defeat at Southgate.
Having decided to bat first, North London managed just 149 runs before being dismissed in the 54th over. It was a target the Southgate openers made light work of, with Jamie Jouning hitting 94 and Alvin Durgacharan 51 before being out lbw.
Patrick Robinson hit the final two runs to seal a win with 152-1 off 40 overs.
South Hampstead eased their relegation fears with a 19-run win over Uxbridge. Batting first, Zeeshan Sialvi just missed out on a deserved century with his 92 off 146 balls, including 14 fours. Graeme Farley hit a quick-fire 54 as South Hampstead declared on 216-8 in 52 overs.
Preetinder Singh led the Uxbridge charge with a mighty knock of 98 off 119 balls, hitting 19 fours and a six along the way.
But with Conray Smith, Jason Domigan and Tom McMahon all taking regular wickets, South Hampstead managed to dismiss Uxbridge for 197 to take 10 precious points.
Elsewhere in Division Two North Middlesex stumbled to a two-wicket victory over Brentham. Having bowled their opponents out for 146 in the 40th over, North Midd just managed to reach a winning score of 147-8 off 44 overs to seal the win.
