Probe as teacher falls from window

Chairman of school governors says ‘no other members of staff or students were involved’

A TEACHER was recovering in hospital yesterday (Wednesday) after falling from a window at Parliament Hill School.
The man, in his 30s, was injured on the first day of the new term on Tuesday. He was taken to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, where his condition is described as “stable” but not life-threatening. Inspectors from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are set to examine the circumstances and how the teacher came to fall almost two storeys from a stairwell window at the girls’ school in Highgate Road.
Pupils watched as an air ambulance and police attended. They were informed of the “serious incident” by letter yesterday and chairman of governors, Dr John Clark, confirmed an investigation will be launched by the HSE.
Dr Clark said: “There was a serious incident in school at the beginning of the week. A teacher sustained minor injuries after a fall from a window. No other members of staff or students were involved. Staff in the school acted promptly and effectively to look after their colleague. We are all enormously grateful to the emergency services whose response and speed in getting to the scene meant that the teacher was taken immediately to the hospital for medical care. The injuries are minor and everyone from the school wishes him a speedy recovery.”
Ambulance staff said a second person was treated by ambulance crews for minor injuries but they did not need hospital care. A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 2.50pm on Tuesday to reports of a fall from height. We sent the air ambulance, two ambulance crews and a single responder.” Scotland Yard added: “There are no allegations this was a crime and the police have no major involvement.”
