‘Young can grow to love horticulture’
MEMBERS of the Hampstead Horticultural Society are sowing the seeds for what they hope will be a bright future by inviting more youngsters to take part in their shows.
The early signs look promising with three-year-old Elsa Rowlatt being named among the winners at the Society’s autumn show on Saturday, which was held at the Gospel Oak Methodist Church in Agincourt Road.
The budding little gardener, who lives in Gospel Oak, won the judges over with her seed tray garden in the Floral Art class.
Carol Bateman, who has been a member of the Society for more than 25 years, said afterwards: “We’d love to attract more children and younger members because they’d bring in new ideas.”
“They’d also really have fun growing things that they can eat themselves,” she added.
Proving that there’s always room for new members, both Joanna Wise and Ros Osmond made glittering debuts to the show scene as they won top honours in the Horticultural and Floral Art classes.
