Never-say-die Dots fire league warning

Sunday champs lift their first trophy of the season

RAMPANT Reddot kicked off their new campaign in the Camden Sunday League by lifting the President’s Cup at the weekend with a hard-fought victory over Brasenose at Cockfosters Stadium.

The Division One champions were pushed all the way by second division side Brasenose, who could easily have been celebrating themselves had they taken their chances in front of goal.
In an open match the Dots took the lead when a speculative cross-come-shot from Steven Bruce found its way into the net.
Reddot thought they had doubled their lead minutes later when Paul Reid poked the ball home from close range, but the lineman’s flag ensured a nervy start to the second half as the goal was ruled offside.
The Dots were on target again within minutes of the restart when left-back Tony Dowsett headed home from close range. Brasenose refused to give up and quickly pulled a goal back when John Ditchburn raced clear and calmly beat the keeper, once again leaving the match hanging in the balance.
Reddot replied with two quick-fire goals. First, Paul Reid guided his header beyond the keeper, and then Jason Medford was gifted a crucial fourth goal when the Brasenose keeper failed to hold on to the ball.
Man-of-the-match Liam Barnabie scored the goal his overall performance deserved to make it 5-1 to Reddot, before Ditchburn pulled another goal back for Brasenose late on with his second of the game.
