Cool hand Luke at the double
FA Vase: 1st Qualifying Round
Kentish Town 3, Cranfield Utd 1
SUBSTITUTE Luke Morgan made himself an instant hero on Saturday when he came off the bench to fire Kentish Town into the next round of the FA Vase.
The speedy striker scored twice against Cranfield United as the Townies ran out 3-1 winners in their first home game of the season at Barnet Copthall Stadium.
The hosts got off to a bright start and took a deserved lead when Mariusz Serwin latched onto a delightful through-ball from Fabion Simms, turned his defender, and neatly stroked the ball past the keeper.
The Townies continued to look dangerous with Luke Kavanagh, Simms and Jason Donlon all going close to doubling the advantage.
Nervous fans had to wait until the 71st minute before the game was made safe when supersub Morgan pounced from close range to slot the ball into an empty net.
Morgan grabbed his second soon after when he volleyed home a perfect cross from Kesi Dryden.
Tom Resch scored a late consolation for Cranfield, but even the loss of a clean sheet couldn’t spoil the Kentish Town celebrations as they netted a convincing 3-1 victory.
The Townies will now face London Colney at home in the second qualifying round on Saturday, September 19. |
