Kelly’s coming home Star Smith returns
ARSENAL Ladies look set to have their squad bolstered by Euro 2009 finalist Kelly Smith this winter, writes Catherine Etoe.
Smith left Arsenal for US professionals Boston Breakers earlier this year, but with the American league now off-season the 30-year-old looks set to return to north London on loan.
After helping England reach the Euro final, where they lost 6-2 against Germany, Smith said: “I’ve signed and may be playing from November, and leaving in March.”
Former Gunners’ team-mate Alex Scott could also join Smith on loan although the return of the two US professionals has yet to be confirmed by Arsenal.
Kim’s hat-trick fires Gunner Girls
League Cup
Watford 1, Arsenal 4
MIDFIELDER Kim Little helped Arsenal Ladies kick-off their new campaign in style on Sunday with a stunning hat-trick against Watford in the League Cup.
The Hornets threatened to cause an upset at Northwood Park when Sally Wade converted a penalty after only two minutes to give them the lead.
Despite their delayed start to the campaign because of the European Championships, however, there were no signs of rust as the Gunners fired back to seal a resounding win.
Little was outstanding throughout and proved the difference between the two sides with her timely treble. Helen Lander completed the scoring in stoppage time as the cup- holders progressed with ease.

Katabella 2, Comets 4
KATABELLA slumped to their first defeat of the season on Sunday against the South London Comets.
Trailing 3-0 at half time, the Kats showed a spirited comeback with Helen Frazer and Jen Coupland both finding the back of net to reduce the deficit to just one goal.
Katabella almost equalised when sub Tamar Koch rattled the crossbar, but with the home side pushing forward Comets scored from a counter-attack to kill off the tie. • In Division One, Camden Town are still awaiting their first win of the new campaign after suffering a 4-2 defeat against Hillingdon Ladies.

She was also instrumental in the opening goal, whipping in a perfect cross for Kirsten Shaw to fire home.
Substitute Vanessa Storey wrapped up the win late on to leave Spurs sixth in the table with eight points from their opening five games. |
