Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 24 September 2009

Too much choice from NHS

• MY GP referred me to the direct access physiotherapy service at the Royal Free Hospital.
Armed with the appropriately stamped questionnaire and information leaflet I went to the basement to book my appointment.
I was shocked when I was told the waiting time was two months to be seen, particularly because the last time I had reason to see a physiotherapist I was seen within 10 days.
However, moaning about the NHS physiotherapy service is not the reason for writing. Reading the information leaflet, in bold italics, it says: “If you would prefer not to be seen by a male or a female physiotherapist you should request this when you book your appointment”.
What other choice is there?
On waiting I could choose to spend the insurance money claimed for my stolen bike on private treatment and be seen, treated and cured within a week.
