‘Strangle and rob’ brothers are jailed
TWO brothers who were responsible for at least 27 vicious muggings of women in Hampstead, St John’s Wood and west London were jailed for life yesterday (Wednesday).
Daniel, 29, and Matthew Mykoo, 27, were sentenced at Wood Green Crown Court for 19 and nine counts of robbery, respectively.
The pair acted as a “strangle and rob” team, selecting victims for their affluence.
Designer Nicole Farhi and BBC journalist Sangita Myska, attacked near their Hampstead and Belsize homes, were among the victims of Daniel Mykoo. In her evidence at the trial, Ms Farhi said she lost consciousness before her husband, playwright David Hare, gave chase to her attackers and noted their numberplate.
Ms Myska, giving an account of her attack in March last year for the BBC, said: “When I struggled my neck was twisted so hard that another few millimetres and it would have broken. I was threatened, ‘shout again and I’ll break your neck’, roughed up and robbed.”
The robbers either pleaded or were found guilty of attacks in Frognal, Belsize Park Gardens, West End Lane, and Cricklewood Broadway, as well as Marlborough Hill and Avenue Road in St John’s Wood, in a spree of between March and June last year.
Daniel Mykoo, from Willesden, will serve a minimum of 14 years. Matthew, from Fulham, will serve a minimum of nine years. |
