Camden New Journal - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 1 October 2009

No mention for market

• AS one of the Labour candidates for Gospel Oak ward I see that the glossy council brochure promoting shopping in Camden omits mention of Queen’s Crescent Market (Confusion over council’s Love affair with Camden, September 24).
Yet residents of Haverstock and Gospel Oak wards contributed about 10 per cent of the £100,000 plus costs of this magazine through their council tax. Queen’s Crescent market with its stalls and shops is vital to the economy of the neighbourhood and is a source of cheap fresh food and employs local people. The reason for this omission is unclear. It raises questions as to the efforts our six local Liberal Democrat and Tory councillors are putting in to supporting their locality. Could the omission just be linked to the embryonic proposals to build a supermarket on the Weedington Road Play Centre site and a belief that the Queen’s Crescent market will thereby become redundant?
