Patrick keeps Phoenix on top

HOTSHOT Michael Patrick ensured Phoenix stayed top of the Division One table at the weekend with a timely treble against Cobden Athletic at Hackney Marshes.
The tricky striker opened the scoring early on with a diving header before going on to complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot after Kevin Duffy was brought down in the area.
Debutant John Lawson also got on the score sheet when he controlled the ball on his chest and volleyed home from close range.
Right-back Duffy continued to cause the Cobden defence problems and won his side another penalty in the second-half. This time leading scoring Anthony Clark stepped up to slot home his sixth of the season.
Scott Cole capped the perfect afternoon for Phoenix when he scored his third goal in two games to seal a 6-3 victory.
Cobden continued to battle throughout and made Phoenix work hard for their three points.
Phoenix even managed to make an impact on the Cobden score sheet when Paul Dunne’s back pass bobbled over goalkeeper Barry Breen for an own-goal.
Champions Reddot are keeping up the early pressure in second place after beating Sir Robert Peel 4-1.
The Dots took the lead against the run of play when Paul Reid caught the keeper out of position with a clever shot from 20 yards.
Reddot doubled their advantage on the stroke of half time thanks to a clinical finish from Liam Barnabie, before sub Steven Bruce made the points safe from the penalty spot.
Former Reddot player TJ O’Leary capped a man-of-the-match performance for Peel when he blasted in a stunning 25-yard screamer.
Any hopes of a revival were dashed, however, when Bruce grabbed his second of the game to complete the scoring.
Afterwards O’Leary, who won countless trophies during his time with Reddot, including the treble, said: “We played some attractive football but we need to convert that football into points and start climbing up the table.”
Teon and Nicky late show for hungry Wolves

TWO goals in the final five minutes ensured Isledon Wolves continued their perfect start to the season in the Under-9s North League on Friday at Market Road.
With the game heading for a goalless draw, Teon Wright made the all-important breakthrough before Nicky Marshall scored to complete a 2-0 win.
Meanwhile Wolves grabbed their first points of the season in the Under-10s ‘B’ League on Monday with a 2-0 victory over Regent’s Park. Mason Jeakins opened the scoring when he drilled his shot just inside the post, before player-of-the-match Ryan Ward hit a decisive second.
In the Under-10s ‘A’ League Hampstead were celebrating their first win after a strike from Mackie Bruce sealed a 1-0 victory over opponents ‘A’ Class.
Isledon Wolves are still awaiting their first win in the Under-12s ‘A’ League after battling out a goalless draw against ‘A’ Class.
Felix Romer and Omar Saada won all the important tackles in midfield, while Lemar Kelly was again outstanding in defence.
Lyndhurst are the early pacesetters in the Under-12s ‘A’ League after coming from a goal down to beat Primrose Hill.
Basil Benioton equalised before goals from Nathon Wanzola, Danny Leonard and Callum Cushing sealed a 4-1 win.
Lyndhurst also recorded one of the biggest victories of the season so far on Saturday when they beat Islington Admiral Youth 13-1 in the under-8s age category.
Billy Leonard and Liam Campbell both hit hat-tricks, while Raul Mills and James Taylor scored two goals apiece. Rudi Shire, Ryan Alebiosu and James Mathews were also on target. |
