Football fashionistas: the Reddot squad parade their new colours, with thanks to Ace Sports of Kentish Town |
Reddot step up the chase
REVAMPED Reddot pulled level with Phoenix at the top of Division One at the weekend with a battling win over CS Maritimo at Hackney Marshes.
The Dots, sporting a new red and black kit, got off to a bright start and took the lead within the first five minutes when Jason Medford headed home a throw-in from John Yates.
Maritimo refused to roll over, however, and pulled the scores level when Carlos Tomar got on the end of an pinpoint cross from Ruben Martins.
In a frantic finale, Maritimo threatened to take all three points when Tomar scored his second of the game with less than 10 minutes remaining.
Champions Reddot stuck to their motto of “Till The Death” and pulled the scores level when Paul Reid smashed the ball home from close range.
With seconds left sub Luke Bernard-Morgan scored the winner after being left unmarked in the six-yard box.
Afterwards manager Micky Dowsett joked: “When Maritimo took the lead I wanted to get my players off the pitch and back into our more traditional yellow kits. “But to their credit, the boys kept on fighting and managed to turn the game around and snatch what could end up proving a vital three points come the end of the season. “I’d like to give a special mention to Ace Sports in Kentish Town for helping us get our kits, and put the red back in Reddot.”
The only other top-flight game saw Archway Allstars come from behind to beat Sir Robert Peel 4-3 in a seven-goal thriller.
In Division Two Lord Tredegar netted a 5-0 victory over Dinamo Dorigo, while there were also wins for AFC Shooters, Mayville and Mostyn FC.
Meanwhile in Division Three the big winners were Crouch End Rangers, who beat Park City Rovers 6-0, and FC Bertoli, who ran out 6-3 winners against The Boston Celtics. |
