Improving the museum
• I WANTED to write following my visit to the British Museum’s current special exhibition Moctezuma: Aztec Ruler and following your reports on its plans for a new building.
Yet again the museum has put together a great exhibition and I feel honoured to have the British Museum in my backyard.
As a local resident I feel strongly that we must support the museum in its plans to improve itself by providing better facilities for its visitors and staff.
Over the last five years it has made major improvements within its galleries and the quality of the exhibitions it offers. Yet it is often battling against the restrictions of its own building.
I went to the see the public exhibition you advertised on its new proposals for new facilities for exhibitions, conservation and storage. I found the plans fascinating and was very excited by the possibility that this new elegant building could become a reality in Montague Place.
Not only will the exhibition experience for visitors be vastly improved but it will also support the museum in continuing the tremendous educational work it does for all the local schools who visit regularly each term.
Local families are very lucky to have such an education resource on their doorstep.
I urge Camden Council to approve its plans.
