Hopes of deaf school move rise
A MOVE by a school for deaf pupils to a temporary King’s Cross home could come a step closer this week.
The Town Hall’s planning committee is due to consider tonight (Thursday) a proposal to move Frank Barnes School for Deaf Children to the Jubilee Waterside Centre, in Camley Street, King’s Cross, for a maximum of five years or until a permanent home is found.
The centre, formed of two 19th century buildings, would need interior work and three new outdoor play areas. It was formerly used for outdoor pursuits by pupils.
Governors at Frank Barnes have been promised a new school in the King’s Cross development, but no date has been confirmed. Frank Barnes has to leave its site in Avenue Road, Swiss Cottage, which is earmarked for a new academy. Chair of governors Mike Katz said: “We are continuing to work with the council to get this successfully resolved. We expect it to be sorted out long before five years is up.” |
