As a pedestrian, I am sick of arrogant cyclists
• I AM really, I mean really, fed up with cyclists.
As a pedestrian I cannot be accused of siding with motorists, but the Forum (Educate drivers and save cyclists, October 22) just infuriated me.
I have never seen an incident or accident involving a motorist, cyclist, and pedestrian where the blame doesn’t fall squarely on the shoulders of the cyclist.
These unlicensed, selfish, arrogant, road- and often pavement- users just don’t obey any rule of the road, now laws seem to govern their actions and they may as well just wear horses’ blinkers as they really couldn’t care less about any other person or vehicle on the public highway.
Police take no notice of their constant law-breaking. When has anyone ever seen one wait for the light to turn green before they continue their journey? So it is inevitable that they will be involved in an incident given their disregard for the laws.
No cyclist should be allowed on the roads until a full test is taken similar to car drivers and more police traps should be set up for cyclists similar to car speed traps and some sort of identification similar to a number plate would also hopefully make these arrogant roads-users ride with a little more sense.

• I WAS sorry to learn of the death of Eilidh Cairns in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle. I hope, however, that the obvious dangers to cyclists from such vehicles will not result in more pavement cycling; I see several instances of this every day as it is.
Cyclists feeling unsafe riding in a specific road (or under specific conditions) should walk on the pavement, wheeling their bikes next to them until they reach conditions which they feel are safe.
I will sign Emma Chesterman’s petition on the Prime Minister’s website but would like to bring to readers’ attention the fact that I, too, have created a petition on the same website: petitions. number10.gov.uk/Realistic Penalty; this refers to pavement cycling (which is, in case anyone is in doubt, illegal).

I'VE just read the comments left by John Sutherland regarding the article 'Educate drivers and save cyclists' (October 22). As a cyclist, I believe the it comes back to the law. When a lorry collides with a cyclists it is rare that they get punished as the onus is on the cyclist to prove they were not in the wrong. How do you propose a dead cyclist do this? On my daily commute I do break the law - to be safe. It's a vicious cirlce. We won't fix this until we address the cuclture of 'Car is King'.
