Representing residents’ views
• IN your publication (Letters, October 29), Dr Peter Preston described the consultation currently being undertaken on the Maiden Lane estate as a “farce.”
For those interested readers, Camden Council is planning to invest a substantial sum of money into the Maiden Lane estate and is currently consulting residents about the best way to regenerate their estate and improve their homes and environment.
This process has included a series of community events and open meetings that have attracted residents throughout the summer.
Dr Preston also refers to my organisation, Open Communities Ltd, an independent training and advisory service, which was selected by residents living on the estate, to offer independent advice and support to all residents while the council consultation takes place.
Our “duty” is to represent the views and concerns of all residents who live on the estate. The evidenced opinion of residents to date is that the letter writer is one of a clear minority.
Indeed, despite many claims, Dr Preston has been unable, or unwilling, to provide evidence that his strong views are supported by any but a very small minority of residents.
Open Communities will, despite the continued campaign of the Save All Our Homes website, continue to support and evidence the views of residents throughout the consultation period, and guarantee that those views are taken into consideration before the council makes any final decision on the way in which the estate will be regenerated.
Any resident wishing to contact Open Communities directly can do so by using the Freephone 0800 073 1051 or by emailing enquiries@opencommunities.org
