College cause - Mandelson backs students’ hard work
LORD Peter Mandelson met students of Westminster Kingsway College on Monday at the launch of Colleges Week 2009 – a celebration of the role colleges play in providing opportunities for individuals and businesses in the UK.
The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills was given a tour of the new £50million King’s Cross campus which opened in June.
Principal Andy Wilson showed Lord Mandelson, who lives in Regent’s Park, around the college design studios and science laboratories before introducing him to a group of students who discussed their studies and opinions on higher education.
Mr Wilson: “It was fantastic for Westminster Kingsway College students and staff to welcome Lord Mandelson on his first full visit to a further education college since he took over responsibility for FE. He was clearly impressed by how happy, confident, determined and engaged the students were in their studies and of the excellent use they are making of our new College Centre in King’s Cross.” |
