Sub Beattie sparks super fightback

ARSENAL overturned a two-goal deficit to snatch a 3-2 victory at London rivals Chelsea on Sunday and maintain their 100 per cent start to their Premier League campaign.
Former Gunners Lianne Sanderson and Leanne Champ returned to haunt their former club when they both found the back of the net within the opening eight minutes at the Metropolitan Police Ground.
Tony Gervaise’s side emerged with renewed vigour after the break to outclass Chelsea. Substitute Jennifer Beattie started the fightback with a powerful header, before Helen Lander levelled the scores with a far-post finish 20 minutes from time.
Beattie, who set up Lander’s equaliser, had the final word when she nodded home her second of the match and Arsenal’s third in the last minute to seal a stunning victory.
The defending champions have now won all five of their opening league games, leaving them four points behind leaders Sunderland with six games in hand.

Hampstead 7, Wingate Res 0
HAMPSTEAD extended their 100 per cent record in all competitions on Sunday when they knocked Wingate and Finchley Reserves out of the cup.
Although the visitors play just one division below Hampstead, the gulf between the sides on the pitch was immense. The game was over before the break thanks to a goal for Lia Larson and braces from Deeple Patel and Claire Arnold.
Char Blackmore, who had created all five of Hampstead’s first half goals, then scored the pick of the bunch in the second half with a 30-yard curling strike into the top left corner of the net.
Debutant Meredith Carlson completed the scoring to seal a resounding 7-0 victory.

CAMDEN Town continued their climb up the table on Sunday with another convincing victory at Regent’s Park.
Town were uninspiring in the first half, with only a single Genia Gulyas strike separating the sides at the break.
The fast improving side turned on the style in the second half, however, with Carmel Clinton scoring twice and Gulyas netting her second of the game. Alex Henderson also hit the target to complete the rout.

Katabella 10, Joybabe 1
STRIKER Helen Frazer scored five goals on Sunday as Katabella returned to winning ways with a decisive victory over rivals Joybabe.
Rachel Ojelade continued her impressive return from injury with two goals, while midfielders Gemma Olds, Carali McCall and Tamar Koch also found their way onto the scoresheet in this 10-1 thrashing. |
