No needle exchange here, please
• ROGER Street WC1 is a quiet, narrow street which runs from Gray’s Inn Road to Doughty Street.
It is surrounded by primary schools, successful small shops and restaurants, and family homes.
Indeed, it is difficult to think of a location for a substance abuse and needle exchange centre (proposed for Roger Street) which would be more likely to threaten children’s wellbeing, deter customers and damage family life than this one.
There has been no meaningful consultation with local residents and businesses about this proposal.
Consequently we are forced to rely on the upcoming planning application to make our objections known.
Of course, we understand that substance abusers need treatment, but this should take place in existing medical premises, on busy streets to allow dispersal, and where infrastructure and supervision are already in place.
Not in brand new, secluded locations in quiet side streets with all the conditions which encourage associated illegal activities.
If this proposal goes ahead, it will cause significant damage to the quality of life in this quiet corner of the borough.
I encourage all your readers to object to the proposal by emailing Charles Thuaire at Camden Development Control (charles.thuaire@camden.gov.uk) quoting reference 2009/4805/P as soon as possible.
