Recycle those glad rags!
Celebrities get behind council’s campaign to revamp old clothes
REVAMPED clothing donated by celebrities including Emma Thompson, Julian Clary and Ridley Scott are up for grabs to residents who pledge to help the environment.
To celebrate the launch of it’s Small Steps campaign, Camden is offering people a chance to win the restyled items by promising to take a small step to a greener lifestyle.
Clothes were given a makeover by residents who attended workshops at Swiss Cottage library last week, where they were given tips on how to update old clothes.
The workshops were designed to encourage people to recycle old clothes instead of throwing them away.
Stella Rigoldi, Camden resident, said: “I had no idea that so many clothes were sent to landfill. I brought along one of my boyfriend’s old shirts and plan to restyle it into a top for me.”
Camden launched the event with TRAID (Textile Recycling for Aid and International Development), which has successfully diverted 1,022.3 tonnes of unwanted textiles from landfill sites.
