Protest at cuts online

SAVAGE cuts to a network of community centres that provide computer training and online education will hit the poorest, campaigners have warned councillors.
More than 60 people from Camden’s 16 UK Online Centres warned the council’s executive last Wednesday that cuts of more than £270,000 would mean disaster for the service.
Philip Oman, a UK Online user who sits on the board of the threatened South Hampstead Education and Life Long Learning Centre (SHELL), told the cabinet: “Literacy, numeracy, debt management, social integration, even spoken English will be lost from local areas where they are most needed.”
Council leader Keith Moffit blamed the recession, adding: “We are reviewing things.”
