On song – Soprano lights up festive night
SOPRANO Lesley Garrett made her first appearance of the festive season in Highgate on Friday when she switched on the village’s Christmas lights.
The popular singer, who lives opposite Highgate Wood, joined residents at Pond Square.
Ms Garrett, who is preparing to perform at a Christmas gala at Cadogan Hall in Chelsea on December 13, said: “I’ve wanted to do this ever since I moved to Highgate 10 years ago.
“For me, as soon as the Highgate lights go on, Christmas starts.
“It’s especially exciting as I’m about to start my Christmas tour so I really feel like the festive period has begun.”
She was joined by husband Peter and her two children, Jeremy, 16, and Chloe, 15.
The event, organised by Chris Underhill, of Prickett and Ellis Underhill Estate Agents, won backing from singer George Michael, a Highgate resident, who made a generous donation towards the cost of the lights. |
