Club swimmers a real credit
MEMBERS of Camden Swiss Cottage Swimming Club proved they really are in a pool of their own on Friday when they successfully held onto their place within the Swim21 Accreditation scheme.
Swim21 is a mark of quality presented by the Amateur Swimming Association to clubs with proven commitment to providing safe, effective services for members.
Camden Swiss Cottage first gained the recognition in 2005, and have held it ever since.
This time coaches, swimmers and volunteers connected to the club were commended for all their hard work, and for yet again producing a high standard of teaching along with skill and competitive development.
The club also gained a new accreditation for their Masters Foundation Level.
In a fitting tribute some of the club’s top swimmers celebrated in style at the weekend when they took part in the Barnet 100s, hosted by the Barnet Copthall club.
A 58-strong team were in dazzling form as they broke five meet records and collected 33 medals from the competition.
Among the many impressive performances was Emily House who smashed three records and took gold in all five of her events. The 10-year-old’s notable haul saw her win the 100m backstroke in 1.18.60 secs, the freestyle in 1.07.67, the butterfly in 1.17.82, the breaststroke in the 1.35.34 and the individual medley in 1.20.63 secs.
Swiss Cottage Development coach Gill Muir said: “Emily’s performance was terrific, I’m sure there is lots more to come from this talented young athlete this season.“
Team-mate Jesse Matthews, 13, put in some terrific swims to medal in all five of his events, winning three golds and two silvers. He also set a meet record in the 100m individual medley when he touched home in 1.11.00.
Olivia Willis, 12, and Hok Iao Wong, 11, also caught the eye as they won three medals each. Overall Camden Swiss Cottage won 13 gold medals. |
