Camden New Journal - Comment

Officials wrong to stamp down on our cheerful organic shop

You’d think the powers that be in Camden would appreciate a new shop like Wild Organic brightening up the otherwise barren stretch of concrete and brick that is Prince of Wales Road.
Since it arrived, the shop has contributed hugely to a sense of community in the area, providing a social space (as the only local place for a coffee and cake), a popular range of in-demand products and a whole new bright and cheery feel to the street.
Therefore it seems beyond belief that the wonderful selection of flowers currently sold outside would have to be removed if officials get their way.
The display is nowhere near the right of way and cannot possibly be doing anything other than improving the area. Who in their right mind would even think of such a policy? Would they rather have another kebab shop or off licence safely contained behind caged glass?
If the community in Camden is to rise up from the blight of crime and intimidation that sterile urban environments foster, then certain departments need to exercise some human common sense when applying their regulations.
It would be a sad and deeply embarrassing day for all if this ridiculous and perverse ban is ever upheld.
