New clue in hunt for murderer

POLICE are hoping they have scored a new breakthrough in the hunt for the murderer of Thomas Breen following an anonymous tip-off.
Mr Breen, (pictured above) 50, died from a stab wound on August 10, 2002, after being attacked near the Tasty Corner food outlet in Camden High Street.
Detectives said on Monday that an anonymous source had sent them a letter with new information. They now want to speak to that letter-writer in a bid to gather further clues.
Detective Inspector Anthony McKeown said: “Every piece of information, no matter how apparently insignificant, could provide vital evidence or a starting point for further investigation.”
Police have been in possession of the letter for 12 months.
He added: “We are offering a reward of £20,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible.”
Mr Breen’s death is the only unsolved killing from the summer of 2002 when six men were murdered within a chilling three month summer spell. The grisly trail linking Camden Town and Kentish Town became known as ‘Murder Mile’ at the time.
With the riddle still unsolved, the case is to feature on BBC’s Crimewatch appeal on Tuesday night. Stephen Breen, the dead man’s son, said: “Hopefully exposure on national television may encourage people to come forward and give information to the police.”
