Come on, let the film cameras roll
• I TOO live in Alwyne Road, Canonbury, and have a very different impression of the filmmakers (Lights, action and disruption, March 9).
As Islington is one of the more picturesque areas of north London, things like film sets are to be expected.
If film directors see a good-looking location, they aren’t going to forsake it for the sake of the residents.
It isn’t as though the film sets take over the entire street either, which can happen when making some period films.
When this scale of work is being undertaken by a film crew, they inform residents, but for three days of filming at two addresses it is hardly seen as an obligation.
The film set used only two houses in Alwyne Road, paying attention to the needs of residents when they needed to get by between takes.
Perhaps E Murray didn’t speak to the film-set personnel directly, but when I did they were friendly, kind and approachable.
As for the “bleepers howling” and “high-wattage lights blaring into our windows”, when doing any film truly professionally these things – lorries and high-watt lights – are necessary. They weren’t used specifically to inconvenience Ms Murray. They inconvenienced me in no way at all.
Also, can someone honestly say they don’t find it interesting that places and buildings they know from their immediate area are in a film?
Would Ms Murray be so irate if the film crew was filming in her house, with her being paid a premium for the aesthetic advantages of her house? I think not.

• WE have in this borough all suffered relative inconvenience from the presence of film crews, which while not constant is often quite disturbing, particularly at night.
The most irritating element is undoubtedly the council’s action in taking out of service, during filming, residents’ parking bays for which we have already paid, and then selling those spaces again to the film company, without compensating residents for the loss of their amenity.
If one conducted a business like that one would rightly be accused of cheating the public.
