Blood-soaked woman brings Tube station to a rush-hour standstill
BANDAGED and bloody, a woman receives help from paramedics after a violent incident at Finsbury Park Tube station brought rush-hour traffic to a halt on Tuesday afternoon.
Paramedics and police rushed to the closed station, fearing a loud domestic dispute had led to a stabbing.
London Underground staff evacuated the station because of concerns that large pools of blood on the floor by the ticket barriers posed a health hazard.
One witness, who asked to be named, said: “We heard at first that the woman had been stabbed because there was so much blood splashed everywhere.
“There was a lot of gossip going on in the crowd outside the station but no one really knew what was going on.”
Once the blood had been cleaned up and the woman checked over by medical teams it became clear that her injuries were self-inflicted.
A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said a 35-year-old woman was treated for “abrasive” head injuries, that were believed to have been “self-sustained”.
She was taken to North Middlesex Hospital and later received a fixed penalty notice for drunk and disorderly behaviour.
A 36-year-old man was also arrested at the scene and charged with the same offence.
