Littlest thief, 11, arrested

POLICE say they have caught Islington’s youngest robber – an 11-year-old boy less than five feet tall.
He was arrested on Friday evening after threatened two 11-year-old girls with a kitchen knife in Cloudsley Road, Barnsbury.
Detectives say the girls were approached by the boy who started quizzing them about their mobile phones.
They ignored him but the boy blocked their path with his bike and produced a small kitchen knife. He was arrested shortly afterwards and was charged and remanded to appear at Thames Youth Court on Monday morning.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was released by the court on bail under an “intense supervision package”.
It includes having to be at home between 5.30pm and 7am.
Police say he had an accomplice, who has not been charged but referred to Islington’s Youth Offending Team.
Detective Inspector Mark Gower, head of Islington’s robbery squad, said: “Under 16s make up nearly 50 per cent of our robberies. It is worrying that kids that young are prepared to use a knife and it’s sad that they are doing so.”
