Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Published: 30 March 2007

Hole lot of trouble

IT is not only residents of Copenhagen Street, Barnsbury, who get put out by the constant roadworks there, although they have all my sympathy (Dug up 375 times – the street like a battlefield, March 23).
The utility companies may compete with each other for our business, but they should co-operate when it comes to digging up our roads. BT one week, Thames Water the next, it goes on and on.
I see that Labour councillor James Murray can’t resist being partisan and blaming his rivals on the Lib Dem council. Surely, even he knows councils can’t say no to works by the utilities. He would be better asking his MP to try to change the law so the council can force these companies to work together and stop messing us all about.
BETTY HARRIS
Duncan Terrace, N1
