Artist Rush Ounvsises
World’s largest portrait of Princess Diana on show

THE world’s largest portrait of Diana Princess of Wales is being exhibited at a Barnsbury art gallery to commemorate the 10th anniversary of her death.
Artist Rush Ounvsises was moved to paint the piece – which measures almost 3.6 metres long by 1.2 metres high – the day after the princess died in Paris car crash in 1997.
The piece is split into 36 sections and is believed to be the largest artwork of its kind in the world.
Each section represents a phase in Diana’s life, from child to marriage, the Gianni Versace funeral and even the famous Panorama interview.
It had been loaned to the Islington Museum for almost three years and was almost thrown out by removal men when the museum moved to its new homes in Finsbury.
But now Mr Ounvsises, owner of Moso Arthouse in Barnsbury Road, Islington, said it is time to show it to the world and will put it on public display from tomorrow (Saturday).
He said: “I painted it the day after her funeral and it took me 12 days to complete.
“Being Thai, we love our king and queen and Princess Diana’s death was a great shock for me.
“So was a fairytale princess, so young and so pretty.”
He created another, smaller painting which he took with his floral tribute although that has disappeared.
Mr Ounvsises said: “I decided to show the painting now because it is the 10-year anniversary of Princess Diana’s death and it will be part of a new exhibition here at the gallery.”
