Noise team halt anarchists’ rave
POWERS usually deployed to stop noisy house parties were used by a Town Hall team to shut down a huge illegal rave in Holloway.
A noise patrol team, backed up by police, ended the squat party at a former black cab dealership in Holloway Road.
Fearing for the safety of officers, police refused to sanction a storming of the building. Instead, they chose to play a waiting game until the revellers left of their own accord.
The March 31 event was hosted by an anarchist collective and billed as “Reclaim the Future 4” on movement websites. It was staged at a building formerly occupied by Mann and Overton taxi cab dealership. It is due to be demolished and the site redeveloped.
Due to advance publicity, the party attracted approximately 1,000 revellers, who paid £3 on the door to gain entry.
A police CCTV van was parked outside all day gathering images of the organisers but the noise patrol team first learned of the event at about 10pm when it received several calls from residents.
A team arrived within 30 minutes and could hear amplified music from a distance of 60 metres.
A noise abatement notice with immediate effect was served. The noise patrol team, together with police, persuaded organisers to shut down the event without using a warrant to seize the music equipment.
While a number of revellers left throughout the course of the night, the party finished at 8am, with the music being turned off at 2am.
