I don’t want a new landlord
• I AM a council tenant living in one of the Packington Square flats in Islington with my young family – children aged from two to 17.
Packington estate faces demolition and we recently got confirmation that the new landlord, Hyde, will be taking over the property on April 30.
I do not want to sign a new contract with Hyde. Islington Council should remain my landlord, based on the contract I had with them when I took over the property.
I contacted the council in writing on what will be their next action (that is, resettlement) as they kept quiet, with no information given to me.
Instead of replying to my letter, I received a phone call from the housing officer asking me what option do I think I have as Hyde will be owning the property at the end of the month and that all tenants will effectively become Hyde tenants.
I disagree, as I never transferred my contract to Hyde and I never signed any documents giving up my council tenancy.
What fate will befall people like me who will not be transferring their contract to Hyde? FELIX SULE
