Islington Tribune - LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Published: 20 April 2007
Democracy in danger
• NOT content with his role in voting for the abolition of democracy at EC1 New Deal, it seems the recently “selected” EC1 New Deal board member Owen Hart is now focusing his attention on the Federation of Islington Tenants’ Associations (Dinosaur group that gobbles up £100,000 a year, April 13).
Democratic organisations, according to Mr Hart, are dinosaurs. Presumably, he feels it would be better to have EC1 New Deal-type organisations to make decisions on behalf of tenants and leaseholders and have members selected rather than elected, ensuring the New Labour social cleansing credentials he wears so proudly are firmly in place.
And for added value, get the guarantee Mr Hart gives in his letter – a willingness to work with Islington’s Lib Dems, who consistently put winning New Labour government brownie points above the needs of tenants and leaseholders. PHIL COSGROVE HAYWARD
