4x4 cop car chase ends in head-on-smash at lights
INVESTIGATORS are examining how a powerful police car smashed into a van during a high-speed chase in Farringdon Road.
Officials at the City of London Police, whose officers were involved in the crash, are refusing to comment on whether the 4x4 had its siren on as it speeded towards Finsbury.
It happened on Monday afternoon as a maintenance van was queuing at traffic lights close to the junction with Charterhouse Street on the Islington/City border.
City traffic officers were chasing a motorcyclist up Farringdon Road and smashed into the side of the blue van.
The driver, a 41-year-old father-of-two who asked not to be named, said: “I was at the lights and they went green so I started to move. “The next thing I know the police car crashed into the side of the van and the force of the smash pushed me into the side of another van. I got a few bruises and was a bit shocked but I’m alright.
A police spokeswoman said an investigation is ongoing.
