Sadler’s Wells gives hip-hop dance a break
INTERNATIONAL dance stars will lock, bop, break and pop all over the place with the return to Sadler’s Wells of the Breakin Convention International Festival of Hip-Hop Dance Theatre next weekend.
Highlights include the Olivier Award-winning Kenrick ‘H20’ Sandy and American stars Electric Boogaloos, as well as the walking-stick-wielding Bill ‘Crutchmaster’ Shannon.
Curator Jonzi D is proud of the line-up, particularly the appearance of French soloist Salah. He said: “He’s just won a reality TV talent show. He’s pretty much at the top of his game. We’re really pleased to have got him. “Electric Boogaloos – they invented popping – are back with a world premiere tribute to their dead member, Skeeter Rabbit. Also watch out for the local crew, Bird Gang. “They’ve got some of the slickest choreography around.”
Jonzi D is keen for more children to get involved in the festival. He has included Random Aspekts’ children’s piece, Rock-a-Bye B-boy.
Tickets for the festival, which runs from May 5-7, are available from Sadler’s Wells on 08444124300.
